Born: March 14, 1917
My great-grandpa, Carl Hayrynen, was born on March 14, 1917. His mother died on his fourteenth birthday. He had to quit school at 16 to go to work in logging to help support his family. He had 11 brothers and sisters. At age 18 he went to work for the Civilian Concentration Core. At 20 he joined the US Army. He left at the age of 24 and then joined the navy for four years. After that he worked for the DNR for 45 years. He taught his kids how to eat and live off the land. He wanted his kids to get a good education. Carl died on April 16, 1996.
